Fertility Preservation: Altering the Course of Reproductive Medicine

Rooted in fundamental reproductive biology and driven by the need to better manage the reproductive capacity of patients undergoing gonadotoxic therapies, the fields of fertility preservation and oncofertility formally emerged nearly two decades ago. These disciplines were shaped by the foresight and dedication of a small group of biologists and physicians who sought not only to mitigate gonadal damage in patients treated for life-threatening malignancies, but also to expand the frontiers of basic research in human reproduction—initiatives that have since transformed the field in ways few could have predicted. Since 2009, the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics has served as a key platform for the dissemination of research in this area, in close association with the International Society for Fertility Preservation (ISFP), founded in 2007 by Professors Sam Kim, Pasquale Patrizio, Tommaso Falcone, and Jacques Donnez, and The Oncofertility Consortium led by Professor Teresa Woodruff. We are pleased to present this Fertility Preservation Collection of Articles, which highlights groundbreaking advances in both patient care and foundational research—advances that continue to drive the evolution and promise of this rapidly advancing field within the larger purview of reproductive medicine and genetics.
